With the first part ending on a bit of a cliffhanger, you would have to catch a performance of Part II just to get the complete story. Altogether, the play was about five hours long. Or audiences could break up their watch by seeing them on separate days. And then the second part could be watched in the evening. The first part of the performance, for example, could be watched earlier in the day. If you get an opportunity to see it, don’t hesitate. Before, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child had two halves, meaning audiences had to attend two separate performances to see the full play. This is, yet again, a story about Love in its many forms and contemplations- and it’s a worthy addition to the Harry Potter we know so well. What will come will come, and we’ll meet it when it does. The play’s greatest victory is its wider messages- that families are hard, growing up is tricky, being a grown up is complex, talking to the people we adore is difficult. Growing up is more than accumulating age– Rowling is honest about that across the Harry Potter universe, and the play showcases the same message. Overall, I was transported back in time, to the days I spent reading the books as a kid I felt that this was a story written for us, the ones who grew up with Harry but aren’t children any more. In particular, the young Scorpius Malfoy is absolutely delightful. The pressure on a 42 strong cast to bring Harry Potter to life must be immense, especially so early in the play’s run, but they did it with a vibrancy you just don’t get from a film. Nonetheless, I gasped at certain revelations, I cried at visions of characters long gone and I joined the standing ovation at the end without hesitation. There are parts I disagreed with and there are parts that could be cut or refashioned for greater purpose. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not perfect. The music and cast interactions are used to great effect in scenes where time must push on, where developments must occur quickly- but it never seems forced. Spells, potions, character appearances and disappearances (and a particular moment with Dementors) are brilliant, bringing the magic to life in a very real way. Props and costumes are rich but not overwhelming, and the moments of magic are truly awesome. The set pieces are stunning and multi purpose. There is a glorious sense of humour to go along with these references– it’s easy to see Rowling’s light hearted sense of fun even in tense moments.Īs a play, this story works. Struggles to fit in, belong, survive, solve and love are universal.Īppearances and references to other characters are to be expected- Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Neville, Voldemort are all part of the story, in small ways or in large. Perhaps it’s because I’m an adult now, but the heroes were just as easy to relate to as I remember them. Seeing a human being inhabit Harry Potter as an adult is somewhat jarring– the same is true of Draco, Hermione, and Ron. I had no idea what to expect.Īn adult now with children of his own, Harry struggles to balance his life as a Ministry man with the development of his children and family. It felt almost like those minutes before I got my grubby hands on Deathly Hallows in 2007. I found myself sitting into my seat in the Palace Theatre for two nights in June and suddenly, I was right back in my childhood again. When I heard ‘Harry Potter Play’ I wasn’t convinced- I was happy to leave Harry and his friends and family happy on Platform 9 and ¾ on that last page.īut having moved to London, several friends asked me to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with them, and I agreed. Real life carried me off and I never got into Pottermore, though the extra info was always welcome. Living in London means I see Platform 9 and ¾ whenever I need a dose of whimsy. I enjoyed the movies and I visited the Watford Studios in London and in 2014 went to Florida to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. In the end, Hello Neighbor proves once more that a simple little idea is all that it takes to cause a lot of anticipation, especially if it’s done right. A neat idea that might just become an instant classic Since this is Unreal Engine 4, you can expect great lighting effects and a lot of gorgeous post-processing, but you can tell that the designers have put some soul into the actual textures as well. Furthermore, there’s the basement itself that keeps you on edge, since there’s no knowing what might be hidden down there.Īs far as the graphics are concerned, they are actually very refined and detailed, especially in terms of object quality and the multitude of environmental items that decorate the neighborhood. Instead, it’s more about the suspense than actual fear, since you are always looking over your shoulder to see if you have been spotted. There are some horror elements in there as well, but don’t expect childish jump scares or anything of the sort. He also chases you down after he uncovers you, so a quick escape route is mandatory as well, at least if you want to keep on trying. Going through the back window might be good solution at first, but the neighbor will set traps there if he discovers you. To begin with, the AI learns from your moves, so it’s important to change things around if you fail the first couple of times. The entire goal of the gameplay is to get past the neighbor unnoticed, but there are many variables to take into account, so the action does not get boring or repetitive as quickly as you might imagine. Hello Neighbor is a very interesting upcoming game that puts you in the role of character trying to go inside his neighbor’s house in order to uncover what he is hiding in his basement. Sneak into your neighbor’s house to see what he is up to There are many great stealth series out there, but new ideas can always change things around a little bit. Somehow, sneaking around enemies instead of brutally murdering them is even more suspenseful, at least if the game is done right. Stealth games rely on good gameplay mechanics to provide the players with an enjoyable experience, because there’s usually not a lot of direct action involved. What if you met the woman you wanted to make your wife after you I wanna share some of my favorite Tagalog Love Story movies! Still, the 2019 release was genuinely good. Lead singer Erik Paulson characterized the band’s sophomore effort as an attempt to separate themselves from the “kind of party emo thing right now,” but when you entirely drop the sound that made your band successful, it doesn’t always help you maintain that core audience. When last year’s Natural, Everyday Degradation came out, it seemed like all of the momentum that Remo Drive had built up shattered in an instant. Hippo Campus put on a good performance, but hats off to Remo Drive for stealing the show and seizing the opportunity of a near sold-out crowd to impress with the great music it has in store.Remo Drive A Portrait of an Ugly Man (Epitaph) The performance wasn’t bad by any means, and I don’t think that takes away from the band’s great album and EPs that have been released over the years, but they could’ve showed with a stronger appearance for an excited, elbow-to-elbow crowd. Smalls, thus making them a little bit of a let down. However, for whatever reason, their intensity and passion seemed to be lackluster at Mr. Now, the argument could be made that Remo Drive created a tough act to follow, however, in the past, Hippo Campus has put on some pretty stellar shows in Pittsburgh. And, clearly, I wasn’t the only one elated with the performance, as mosh pits swarmed feverishly throughout the set in the near-packed crowd. His energy level, tempo changes and strict time keeping were the highlight of this unexpected gem of a show. Remo Drive’s Sam Mathys on drums was a spectacle in and of hiself. The group produced and released its sophomore, full-length LP in early 2017 titled Greatest Hits which, despite its cheesy name, sounds the furthest thing from typical. Remo Drive, a true independently-operating band under its own label, opened its set with power chords and strong rock tunes that were a perfect mix of a classic emo revival characteristics and experimental and innovative sounds which demanded the audience’s attention. However, thanks to a killer performance from Remo Drive and just an OK show by Hippo Campus, the contrary proved to be true. On the other hand, I expected Remo Drive, the opening band for Hippo Campus, to be good, but not to be a show to stick with me. The firepower of both new hits and classics for the band set them up for what should have been plenty of material to put their crowd in a trance. Additionally, their recently released and second EP, warm glow proved to hold many great tracks. Going into the show, I had full expectations for Hippo Campus to put on an outstanding performance given the numerous hits emerging from Landmark. With the addition of their new album, the group broadened their genre by going deeper into a more filtered and more digitized sound, subsequently quieting their previously established alternative rock music which emerged from their EP that so many people, including their record label, noticed and enjoyed. This release aided their rise in becoming one of the more well-known and recognizable indie-rock bands of today’s music scene. The group put out its first full length album, Landmark, which gained more publicity and hype than their first EP had. Maybe the fans were most excited about Hippo Campus’ latest release. It was a pretty dedicated crowd, if you ask me. Smalls made that clear: people camped for hours in advance to get a good spot at the show. Hippo Campus’ Pittsburgh audience had been well-established to begin with, and its seemingly faithful fan base at a nearly sold-out crowd at Mr. The group toured with its new EP and played in Pittsburgh’s Cattivo and even had a free concert in Schenley Plaza which were both well-attended and praised highly. Given the opportunity to make music under the highly acclaimed label Grand Jury Music is becoming, it would’ve been obscene not to accept the offer. The company found something unique in Hippo Campus’ sound and offered the band to sign after their first EP had been released. It wasn’t until late 2014 that the group released their six-track EP, Bashful Creatures, which grabbed the attention of Grand Jury Music, a highly sought after record label with artists including Day Wave, Ne-Hi and Twin Peaks. The four guys all attended a performing arts school and found each other while playing in other bands before their final coming-together as Hippo Campus in 2013. The four-man set that makes up Hippo Campus’ indie-rock sound was formed in their high school years in St. Joey Mueser/Staff Writer Who: Hippo Campus and Remo DriveĪ group of guys in their early 20s met when they were younger and shared an appreciation for music: it’s surprise the recipe for a successful rock band (by today’s standards) isn’t published in a cookbook somewhere. He and Thomas formed a friendship.Īfter Alby went through the Changing, Newt became the unofficial leader of the Glade, doing his best to keep order. He called a Gathering to decide what to do with Thomas, who has entered the Maze ignoring Rule Number 1. In The Maze Runner, Newt was first introduced as being Second-in-Command to Alby. He survives, but his leg is injured, giving him a limp for the rest of his life. A little over a year after the beginning of the Trials, Newt is in despair over all the deaths he could not prevent and the fact that there is seemingly no way out of the Maze, and he attempts suicide by jumping off a Maze wall. With Thomas's help, Newt manages to visit Lizzy a short time before the beginning of the Maze Trials. Newt and his friends meet Thomas and Teresa, but he is often separated from them for years at a time. Newt also manages to sneak peeks of Lizzy now and then, but he is not allowed to see her. They even find a way outside, but as there is no reasonable hope of surviving in the wild, they stay put. At some point, he befriends Minho and Alby, and they start sneaking out of their rooms at night to goof off together. Sometime later, he and the other kids are given a brain implant that will allow WICKED to monitor their brain activity. He is aware of the fact that he is not Immune. Newt is separated from his sister and placed with other Group A members. They decide to also take Newt as a non-Immune control subject, and both he and his sister are taken away. Newt's father grabs a gun and fires two shots, both miss. Suddenly, WICKED agents force their way in and demand to take Lizzy away for testing, as they know she is Immune. In the prologue of The Fever Code, a young Newt is shown living in a basement with his parents and younger sister, Lizzy.
